Electrowater is a piece that explores the relationship between natural and mechanical sound. When I am out field recording in places that are seemingly remote, I am always struck by how many airplanes, distant freeway whooshes, and other mechanical sounds I can detect, specially when using sensitive microphones. I decided to stop trying to filter out the unwanted or unnatural sounds and engage with the environment as it is. Complex, conflicting, yet interconnected: an oxymoron of sorts, along with me, my body, its journey, and its contrived position in the wilderness of things. I think this is the connection I make with the Roots Project.
