The source of my work is the natural world and my place in it.Until I moved to the Bay Area a few years ago I was drawn to the dry twigs and open space of Newport's Back Bay. My latest work reflects a new landscape, of trees, hills and fog and is becoming more metaphorical.

I am interested in traditional/historical media; in particular, woodcuts, wood engravings and egg tempera, used in a contemporary manner. I do not always work from photographs, but from observation and interpretation. I often incorporate symbols for other senses such as sound and touch. At the same time an erasure of much of the visual abundance I am seeing helps to distill the essence of the place. I find myself negotiating between the idea and the tool and leave much of the result to a combination of problem solving and chance.
